Another day in the PICU

Saturday, December, 23rd 2023 | Inpatient Day 03

Today was a easy day with slow but marked improvements overall. Dr. Coro (ICU attending) was back today which helps with continuity. Also, Amanda was back as his bedside nurse. Richard really likes Amanda.

From a medical / respiratory standpoint we are still riding the up and downs. He bounces between needing 100% o2 with 20 liters minute of flow to 70% O2 with a flow of about 15 liters per minute. The major improvement is in his level of energy and activity. He was even able to sit up for a couple extended of time and was able to interact with people much more.

There was some talk of CPAP for Richard. In the past there has been some concern about positive pressure treatments and his surgical repair. Bless his soul, papa was able to text with Dr. Goldin (his lead surgeon at Seattle Children’s). Dr. Goldin was also hesitant and deferred to the Team at Boston. Although we almost never use it, we cannot stress enough how nice it is to have access to Dr. Goldin and his team directly.

The other thing two things that happened is he is back at full feeds and is pooping again! Also, for the first time sense he got to the PICU papa got to hold Richard and cuddle 🙂

  1. glad you two got some snuggle time, that’s what helps the most with healing!
Santa knows what’s going on and I’m sure he will take care of everything as he always does. Have a great Christmas and a Healthy happy day.
