For the entire week, mama kept talking about needing to take more family photos so we decided to take a photo at the Mammoth National Park sign on the way out for the day.
Abraham Lincoln Birthplace
We drove about an hour east to Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park in Hodgenville, KY. We are trying something new with Sidney’s roadschooling curriculum. Whenever possible we are getting the Jr. Ranger Books for National Parks online and printing them off. Then in the days before we go to a given park he does as much of the book that can be done before we get on-site. We started in the Visitor’s Center where Sidney only had one page left if the Jr. Ranger Book. He quickly finished his book.
This was one of the easiser parks to navigate with the stroller then many. We started out of the boardwalk and worked our way to the original monument. It was very interesting to find a log cabin in site a large monument style stone building. A ranger asked if we wanted our picture in front of the monument.
We then moved down and explored the Sinking Spring. First mama and Sidney went down while papa and Richard killed time by making silly faces. When papa and Sidney went together to look at the Spring we found a perfect example of honey bee and had a great talk about their characteristics.
We finished by exploring the flagpole and walked by the old hotel that was named after Abraham Lincoln’s mother. We then jumped in the truck to drive to Abraham Lincoln’s first boyhood home about 15 minutes down the road.

Abraham Lincoln Boyhood Home (Knob Hill Farm)
When we got to Knob Hill Farm and explored the visitor’s center. It was a smaller visitor center but papa felt it was more informative. There was lots for Richard and Sidney to touch and do in the museum areas.
We then went outside and look around the grounds. The most notable part of the grounds was the reconstruction of what Abraham Lincoln’s boyhood cabin looked like. Sidney and papa had a great talk about how it would be living in such a small space for an entire, and much larger, family then ours.

The Pool
We even made it back to the campground in time to let the boys enjoy their favorite past time of playing in the pool.
