Homestead National Historical Park

Wednesday, September 20th 2023

Our Field Trip for this week was to Homestead National Historical Park in Beatrice, NE. This park was close to papa’s heart as his family homesteaded in Western Washington State in the late 1800s. We were even able to find the records in the database from their homestead grant.

From a homeschooling standpoint this stop was gold. Sidney got his Jr. Ranger Badge from Homestead NHP. They even had a ‘Jr. Ranger’ book for adults that papa completed. They had both a great Visitor’s Center with a great Museum and also outdoor exhibits of a common homestead cabin and farm equipment.

The Ranger also recommended picking apples from the “orchard” which we did! There were a few trees of different species each (pears, cherries, peaches, etc) but only the apple was producing fruit at the time.
