We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Thousand Trails’ Diamond Caverns RV Resort & Golf Course. The highlight was that it was surrounded on all 4 sides by Mammoth Cave National Park.
Mama’s Birthday
One of the things that we enjoyed this morning was a private family birthday celebration for mama’s birthday. Mama was camera shy as usual and appreciated the surprise effort that her boys went to honor her.
Accessible Mammoth Cave Tour
One of the challenges with many places, like Mammoth Cave, is that they do not allow backpack kid carriers for safety reasons. This is common for lots of museums, historical sites and the like. Here at Mammoth Cave NP, Richard’s ‘Access Pass‘ not only reduces lots of fees and gives us free access to lots federal properties and activities, it also gives us access to ‘accessible’ programs and tours. At Mammoth Cave, they have an elevator to a section of the cave and offer ‘accessible’ tours where people with mobility issues can still enjoy the caves.
The tour was great. Our tour guide was wonderful! Not only was she a great guide, she called out Sidney for being a Jr. Ranger and had him help with most every aspect of the tour. He got to walk with her in front, turn off/on lights, read graffiti from the 1800s and even answer some q/a that he learned from his Mammoth Cave Jr. Ranger book.
Mammoth Cave National Park will be on the top of the list for us to return to when Richard is more mobile and able to participate in the other programs. You really need 2+ weeks to truly explore this park.
