Travel Day
Tuesday, December 24th 2025
This was one of our shortest travel days. We pulled out of Zion National Park after visiting the dump station and did the short 1 hour drive to the St. George / Hurricane KOA.
Kolob Canyon, Zion National Park
Wednesday, December, 25th & Saturday, December, 28th
In the afternoon on Christmas Day, we drove up to Kolob Canyon to explore more of Zion National Park. The visitor center and gift shop was mostly closed with only one ranger checking for passes.
It was a nice short drive but the clouds hid all the views and it was almost too cold for Richard to spend much time out of the truck without his snow gear (no snow just very aggressive cold wind).
We were able to return the following Saturday. The weather was much nicer and we were able to enjoy the views. Papa’s only regret was there was not some time to go for a hike.

Christmas in Utah
Wednesday, December, 25th
We had a simple family Christmas at our campsite. The boys opened their presents and had a great time.
Leeds Civilian Conservation Corps Historical Site
Saturday, December 28th
Just down the street was a partially restored Civilian Conservation Corps site. It was a nice little stop provided by local volunteers.
For those that are not familiar with the Civilian Conservation Corps commonly referred to as CCC. It was part of the ‘New Deal’ program during the great depression of the 1930s. Unemployed men would leave their families and live in camps while they worked on infrastructure projects and develop government lands. This particular camp was responsible for building most of the highways in the area, including the famous tunnel in Zion National Park.
