Doernbecher Children’s Hospital

Today

Well… we are all at the ER with Richard. He kept desatting on his low flow nasal cannula and per our agreed upon protocol with his team we switched him to a mask, turned up the flow and brought him in.

If this is like the last 3 or 4 times we have done this, he gets admitted, spends a few nights on high flow oxygen then goes home.

What makes this time interesting is that we have to move the 5th wheel from 35 minutes NW of Portland, OR to 45 minutes SE at Mt. Hood, OR. This means we get to do two things we have never done before as a family. Mama for the first time gets to be the on-site parent for an admission night. Also, Papa and Sidney get to hitch up the RV, move it and back into our new site without mama’s eyes…

The other new experience is Sidney is getting his first ER experience seeing this phase of his brother’s life.

History

Richard started showing some respiratory symptoms and a low grade fever on Monday. As things progressed over the next couple days and we decided Thursday to take Richard the Emergency Emergency Room at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital at Oregon State Health University in Portland, OR. He was discharged from the ER with Atypical Pneumonia and tested positive for Parainfluenza. We have been managing at home. Richard has a history of getting secondary infections while inpatient so we have several tools at home that let us stay home longer before being admitted and discharged a few days earlier then the average child.
