Missoula, MT to Big Timber, MT

Travel day 3 went as expected- we still had the trailer brake warning from the truck but thankfully we were fine driving through more mountain passes going downhill. Kyle also drove very cautiously and kept a good distance from other vehicles just in case. Once again we were blessed with beautiful driving weather.

We made a few bathroom breaks and saw the Anaconda Smoke Stack from a distance it is huge! You can learn more about one of the largest free-standing brick structures in the world, here: https://www.visitmt.com/listings/general/state-park/anaconda-smoke-stack-state-park

We arrived at the Big Timber KOA campground mid- afternoon and there was only one other camper there, but they were parked where we were supposed to park, so we had to call the managers to have them tell us where we could park instead. We ended up parking next to the camper with no issues. The campground had “opened” for the season, but the managers even said they weren’t really open yet- the ground was still drying out and they were clearing out sites from the winter. There is even still snow on the ground! One of the managers said this was the worst winter they have ever had- she said even the “old-timers” would agree! Sidney loves that there is still snow on the ground, of course.

One downside of where we are parked is we are pretty close to I-90 so there is a lot of traffic noise. One upside is running parallel to I-90 is a very busy train track, which we all enjoy watching, especially the boys.

While we have a few days with “down-time” Kyle is going to try and figure out the brake warning issue while Katie works.

Miles Driven: 280
