Boston Children’s Day 2023.027

Saturday, May, 27th 2023 – Discharge Day!

We got word this morning from the nurse practicioners that we were okay to discharge today and were just waiting on one of his meds from the pharmacy! Mom picked up the med around 11am, and then we waited for discharge paperwork. Our nurse came back and asked us about the Zofran (anti-nausea med) and if we were going to take it at home because it can have a negative side effect with one of his scheduled meds. We have historically taken the Zofran as needed for his retching and have never been told about a side effect, so mom mentioned this to the nurse. The nurse practitioner came to the room and said Richard would need and EKG before discharge because the side effect could cause a heart arrhythmia. She also highly discouraged using the Zofran and said if he starts retching again with the increased rate is his feeding pump, to call them and we can discuss options. The EKG was completed, we just needed cardiologist to sign off on it then complete the discharge paperwork. Mom told dad to start heading over to the hospital (mom’s rental car is too small to take all the stuff and Richard home alone). Then we waited. And waited. Kyle and Sidney arrived and we kept waiting. Finally, about 4 hours later we got the Dr’s sign off and reviewed the discharge paperwork with the nurse. Then home we went!
