POOP! A disappointment, busy day and lots of good news…
Overnight
Papa got a overall good night sleep
The one exception is at about 11pm he woke up to a party with a few nurses all grouped around Richard’s bed. This is normally not a good thing and sure enough it was a little bad thing. Richard destated and sustained his O2 in the upper 60s and lower 70s and was not coming all the way back up on a 10l mask (a lot of O2).
Papa heard him gurgling/junkie and suggested they OP (oral suction to induce a cough) and a little nasal suction. That plus a little more nasal cannula 02 (4l) and the rest of the night was uneventful.
Discharge Update
Today was a busy day. As of writing this post, Papa gives it about a 35% chance of us being discharged on Friday. The challenge is if he is not discharged Friday, then we are likely going to be stuck inpatient for until at least Tuesday or Wednesday due to the holiday weekend. It would be a great gift from God if the family could be home together for the long weekend.
Papa has been trying very hard to get all the ducks in a row to enable us to go home Friday. Here is what is outstanding for him to go home
- He is at full feeds (we are on track but no margin)
- His voice box test is clear = done
- His swallow test comes back done = test done, primary results are still pending
- A new Enteral feed pump and feed bags show up (order but waiting on insurance)
- His supplemental 02 needs are equal or less then 2.0 ltr
The disappointing news
Poor Sidney and delayed rest for Papa
This morning papa and mama was supposed to switch today. However, on their way in mama and Sidney stopped at a local restaurant for breakfast and Sidney ended up throwing up. We decided that it was best to delay until tomorrow and see how Sidney is feeling. The 7pm update is he has had no appetite feels cold but is warm to the touch; however, his temp is normal. Please pray for him.
Papa was also looking forward to having 4 or 5 days away from the hospital. He has been bedside 23 of the last 24 nights and counting.
Poop! x2
For the last couple days we have been stepping up Richard poop meds because he has not pooped since before his operation. Well, on day 7 (of no poop) he is making up for lost time. I do have a picture but I will spare you. At about 3pm while sitting in papa’s lap he had a poop blow out with about 3-4 times the diaper’s capability. Then again at 7pm round two. He was nice enough to do it in bed this time.

Meu Deus que notícia maravilhosa!
muito bom ver ele assim,
nosso Deus ouviu nossas orações.
Que linda sua máscara de peixinho Richard.
Sidney logo ficará bem , deve estar com saudades do Papai
Vamos orar pelo Sidney também!
